Enjoy the holidays without the weight gain: 6 tips
From Diwali sweets to Thanksgiving dinner and holiday parties, the season is full of food. These simple habits help you enjoy it without losing your progress.
1. Don't skip meals before a party
Arriving very hungry makes it easy to overeat. Have a small snack with protein and fiber, such as yogurt, a handful of nuts or roasted chana, before you go.
2. Fill half your plate with vegetables first
Start with salad, vegetables or a broth-based soup, then add protein. Take smaller portions of rice, bread, fried snacks and desserts.
3. Choose your favorites
Skip the foods you can have any time and enjoy a small portion of the treats you truly love, such as one piece of your favorite mithai instead of a little of everything.
4. Watch your drinks
Alcohol, sweet chai, juice and soda add a lot of calories quickly. Alternate with water or unsweetened drinks.
5. Walk after meals
A 10 to 15 minute walk after eating helps lower blood sugar and is a great family tradition to start.
6. Aim to maintain, not to be perfect
Holidays are a good time to hold steady. If you overeat at one meal, simply return to your usual routine at the next one.
